Join our Board of Directors

Open to all Sigma Alpha Omega® Alumnae in good standing! The Sigma Alpha Omega® Foundation is opening its application pool to welcome new Directors.

Directors are required to attend a monthly teleconference and additional “emergency” teleconference meetings, as needed, as well as attend all annual meetings during their entire term. There is also an expectation to proactively be available via Slack. This volunteer position is as challenging as it is rewarding, and can require 5-15 hours of work a week. The time commitment varies from each position but should not be underestimated.

The positions will be filled based on a vote from the current Sigma Alpha Omega® Foundation Board of Directors.

 

Roles being recruited are:

- Treasurer || 2-year term (January 2026 - January 2028)

- Director of Programming || 1-year term (January 2026 - January 2027)

- Director of Public Relations || 2-year term (January 2026 - January 2028)

Director of Programming

  • Be responsible for determining and instituting programs to be carried out by Sigma Alpha Omega Foundation – such as grants, scholarships, leadership programs, and Programs events. (Bylaws)

  • Be responsible for verifying that funds are available, tasks are delegated, and outcomes evaluated. (Bylaws)

  • Be responsible for the organization and supplication of ideas from the board of directors, as pertains to scholarships, grants, leadership programs, Philanthropic events and fundraising endeavors. (Bylaws)

  • In general, perform all duties incident to the office of secretary and such other duties as may be required by these bylaws, or which may be assigned to him or her from time to time by the board of directors. (Bylaws)

  • Ensure that policies are in place, and occur annually, to evaluate the organization’s programs and services, in order to determine if they advance the mission and are effective in meeting the needs of its beneficiaries. (Jossey)

  • The Programs Director shall oversee the Non-delegate grant process.

  • Sisters Helping Sisters management on the back end: communication with the chapters/sisters needing assistance, following up with sisters to make sure they’ve sent a thank you to their donor, if necessary

  • Oversee the planning and execution of all sister facing events (i.e. missions and synchronous and asynchronous programming)

Duties Performed By All Board of Directors

  • Regularly review and uphold the mission and revise if necessary. (Jossey)

  • Engage in strategic thinking to determine the strategic directions and priorities against the organization’s mission, vision, values and changes in the internal and external environment. (Jossey)

  • Periodically assess performance with self and peer evaluations. (Jossey)

  • Actively participate in fundraising endeavors presented.

  • Actively pursue recruitment of donors, incoming directors, and relevant partnerships and committee members were formed

  • Board members are to actively participate in the annual convention whether in person or virtual. 

  • One Board member should act as a sitting member of the Convention Committee each year, oversee workshop at convention, and participate in needed committees.

Treasurer

  • Have charge and custody of, and be responsible for, all funds and securities of the corporation, and deposit all such funds in the name of the corporation in such banks, trust companies, or other depositories as shall be selected by the board of directors. (Bylaws)

  • Receive, and give receipt for, monies due and payable to the corporation from any source whatsoever. (Bylaws)

  • Disburse, or cause to be disbursed, the funds of the corporation as may be directed by the board of directors, taking proper vouchers for such disbursements. (Bylaws)

  • Keep and maintain adequate and correct accounts of the corporation's properties and business transactions, including accounts of its assets, liabilities, receipts, disbursements, gains and losses. (Bylaws)

  • Exhibit at all reasonable times the books of account and financial records to any director of the corporation, or to his or her agent or attorney, on request thereof. (Bylaws)

  • Render to the president and directors, whenever requested, an account of any or all of his or her transactions as treasurer and of the financial condition of the corporation. 

  • Prepare, or cause to be prepared, and certify, or cause to be certified, the financial statements to be included in any required reports. (Bylaws)

  • Work to maintain 501c3 tax status by completing tax returns promptly and on time. (Bylaws)

  • In general, perform all duties incident to the office of treasurer and such other duties as may be required by law, by the articles of incorporation of the corporation, or by these bylaws, or which may be assigned to him or her from time to time by the board of directors. (Bylaws)

  • Ensure that adequate financial resources are secured to support the proposed programs

  • Ensure that the current organization’s current revenues are stable and encourage the cultivation of sources of revenue that are sustainable for a long term. (Jossey)

  • Ensure that income is managed properly and that financial statements are accurate, intelligible, comprehensive and timely to reflect the true financial condition of the organization and key financial transactions. (Jossey)

  • Ensure that accumulated assets are protected. (Jossey)

  • Ensure that policies and practices are in place to protect the well-being, safety and development of staff volunteers, and clients. (Jossey)

  • Handle all dealing with organizations chosen for the venue of banking. (Jossey)

  • Propose an annual budget for Board review at the first meeting of the fiscal year. (Bylaws)

  • While it is the responsibility of the entire board of directors to actively participate in fundraising opportunities the Treasurer shall be responsible for bringing ideas to discussion, and opening dialogue regarding fundraising endeavors. (Bylaws)  

  • Oversee and manage Sisters Helping Sisters Program, ensuring delegation where appropriate 

  • Manage the Emergency Relief Fund and maintain the following needs of the program

 Director of PR

  • Promote the organization to donors and potential donors. 

  • Create and establishing Public Relations and Marketing ideas/strategies for organization.

  • Maintain Brand Book PDF with guidelines and update as necessary.

  • Maintain all Foundation social media, website, and other public relations activities including but not limited to: Scheduled Post, creating stories and polls, and responding to direct messages. 

  • Update SAOF website consistently with upcoming events, announcements, and keeping blog post current 

  • Build and create the quarterly publication, Rosette Gazette, with help from the Board of Directors.
